What is a Stephen Minister?

Stephen Ministers are trained volunteers who provide one-to-one Christian care to individuals experiencing various forms of grief and struggle, including illness, bereavement, job loss, divorce, and other personal crises. As a Stephen Minister, you will be equipped to offer emotional and spiritual support, helping people navigate through their darkest times.

To prepare for this vital role, you will undergo 50 hours of comprehensive training, which will take place on Monday nights from January through May. This training is designed to equip you with the skills necessary to provide high-quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to those who are hurting.

Post-Training Commissioning

Upon completion of your training, you will be commissioned as a Stephen Minister, ready to embark on a journey of service. You will be matched with care receivers who are struggling with grief from various life issues, and you will have the opportunity to walk alongside them, offering hope and healing through your presence and prayers.

Requirements

  • A heart for service and a desire to help others

  • Availability to attend all training sessions

  • Commitment to serve for at least two years after commissioning

  • Participation in regular support and supervision groups
