Neighbors in Need Report + March 15, 2025

Thanks for being our model, Aaron! Peggy, her granddaughter and her granddaughter's friend baked and decorated 6 trays of beautiful St Patrick's Day treats. Our Neighbors sure enjoyed the gift. Their comments were so fun!

It was a subdued morning. Our Neighbors were slow to arrive and didn't have much to say even to each other. Let's pray that longer hours, blooming flowers and (dare we dream?) more shelter will cheer up our community.

Our team from Holy Rosary Catholic Church hosted breakfast again this week. They served macaroni and cheese and sausages as well as preparing burritos. That brought smiles and gratitude.

Our pantry served 82 Neighbors, 2 families, and 4 dogs. We all know that Edmonds Food Bank is the major support of our food bank. McKenna, who is the food bank's outreach coordinator, cares a lot about what our Neighbors need, and she remembers heir favorites. John visits the food bank every Friday afternoon. McKenna has already set aside crates of serious nutrition such as hearty soups, peanut butter and canned meats. John returns on Saturday mornings to deliver fresh salads and fresh fruits. He even brings eggs when he can. Edmonds Food Bank is a Neighbors in Need essential.

Third Saturday of the month is Dental Van day. The professional dental team served 11 patients for a variety of treatments including cleanings, fillings, and occasional referrals to urgent care because delayed dental work encourages painful and health robbing infections.

HELP NEEDED

Our partnership with the dental van has been a blessing both to Neighbors in Need and to Medical Teams International. Susan is a skilled organizer. She has developed a protocol that allows qualified patients to make appointments, confirm or cancel appointments and show up qualified to be treated. This certainty makes it worthwhile to the Medical Teams International professionals to volunteer their time to do health-saving work.

Susan needs help. There are mid-week, work from home tasks. And occasionally there are dental van Saturdays when Susan cannot be on site to host the dental van team. Susan has written a detailed job description which is attached to this report. Please take a look at it. Her organizational skills guarantee that your work will be successful as well as meaningful. This is truly significant service. If you can help please contact Susan: s9494er@outlook.com or contact Joan: 206-450-4900 joan.jolly@gmail.com.

THANK YOU

Thank you to Amy from St Hilda St Patrick Episcopal Church for dropping off much needed clothing, especially warm socks and men's boxer shorts. Amy shared pictures of the blanket bin and food pantry that St Hilda ST Patrick congregation maintains in their parking lot. It sure invites their neighbors to support Neighbors.

DONATIONS APPEAL

Sharon joined Peggy in the clothing bank on Saturday morning. She experienced telling men who were wearing damp, dirty clothing that were no available jeans or pants of any kind. To quote her, "It was so sad to see their disappointment!" Men's jeans and men's boxer underwear are always needed. Please check your closets.

INVITATION

The Trinity volunteer team will be preparing breakfast burritos for Lent supper on Wednesday, March 26. We would welcome your company 🙂. Supper is served at 5:30.

We wish you peace,

Joan
