This week we continue our journey through the Rooted in Community initiative, discerning how we will respond to God's generosity. Over the past three weeks, we’ve been reminded that Jesus calls us to reflect God's generosity in every aspect of our lives—deeply intertwined with our faith, words, and actions. On Sunday, we will come together to consecrate our commitments as we pledge continued support for God’s work through the mission and ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church & Schools.
The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the church in Corinth (2 Cor 8:1-4), tells us how generosity brings hope and healing. The Corinthians gave freely—far beyond what they could afford. It wasn’t the amount that mattered, but the spirit in which they gave.
As we gather this Sunday, we will—together as a community of cheerful givers—respond to God by affirming our commitments to fully engage in this ongoing journey, releasing with open hands so that the fruit of the Spirit can reach others. Full engagement may mean continuing your financial support, increasing it if you are able, or committing more deeply through prayer, participation, and sharing your talents.
If you increased your giving during the Build Up, Branch Out campaign, I encourage you to maintain the same level of generosity by directing your Capital Fund gifts to the Mission Fund. If you’ve been considering an increase or haven’t yet had the chance to contribute, this is a meaningful moment to do so. And if you’ve reached the limit of your financial ability, give in whatever way your situation allows. The key is that we all prayerfully participate with a generous posture and a grateful heart.
This journey is about much more than financial goals; it’s a call to deepen who we are as children of God—agents of healing, transformation, and wholeness within our community.
I encourage you to take the time to pray. Hold your commitment card in your hands, and reflect—either alone or with your family—on how you will join God's work through the ministry of this congregation.
Personally, I am doing the same. I am praying with you and for you, asking for boldness as we strive to be channels of God's generosity right here, right now. My family and I are increasing our financial commitment this year. Will it have an impact on other aspects of life? Absolutely! Will we need to rearrange our priorities? Totally!
Whatever level of generosity you are able to provide, we strongly encourage everyone to participate by submitting a commitment card–even if you are unable to give financially at this time. This helps us plan for our 2025 budget, and allows you to provide input on how a significant portion of our 2025 Mission Giving Fund will be allocated.
Commitment cards will be collected this Sunday, October 27 during worship. If you are unable to attend in person, you can submit your card online at tlcs.church/rooted as soon as you are able.
We already have the assurance of God’s blessing, comfort, and provision. Let’s embrace that promise as we move forward.
Let's join our hearts in the Spirit over the next few days and bring our commitment cards on Sunday as a reflection of God’s abundant orchard bearing fruit.
“But blessed is the man who trusts me, God,
the woman who sticks with God.
They’re like trees replanted in Eden,
putting down roots near the rivers—
Never a worry through the hottest of summers,
never dropping a leaf,
Serene and calm through droughts,
bearing fresh fruit every season.”
